2010 Lamborghini Gallardo Superleggera LP-570 at Nott Autocorp in Winnipeg

ONE TIME or another, there has been in a time in our life where we aspire (or continue to aspire) to own a Lamborghini. If you’re one of those people, you probably had a Lamborghini Hot Wheels car that helped sparked that inspiration too.

Although no one from the Nott Autocorp Team grew up with a silver spoon in their mouth, we have the privilege of working with these beautiful super cars. We meet the owners of these cars and they become our friends. As a dealership that’s sold more Lamborghini models than any other Winnipeg dealership, we know what it’s like having one of these.

So, aside from owning that Hot Wheels replica, what’s it really like owning an real Lamborghini?

POT HOLES – Well, if you’re a Winnipegger like us you’ll know the first concern with owning a super car like this. It doesn’t matter if you’re driving your 1998 Toyota Corolla or a 2014 Lamborghini Huracan, you’re concern in Winnipeg is to watch out for those pot holes. If you hit one of them and it causes damage to your vehicle, Manitoba Public Insurance, treats the incident as an accident for which you’re at-fault for. This means you’re responsible for paying your deductible and you’re most likely going to get demerits on your license.

With a super car like a Lamborghini, a pot hole doesn’t only risk a bent rim. A pot hole also risks damaging your crazy expensive front bumper or to mechanical work underneath the car.

With 9/10 Lamborghini models in Winnipeg being a Gallardo, the used retail price for one of these bad boys range from $120,000.00 – $250,000.00 + taxes. On top of the expensive price tag, you’ll have to service these bad boys outside of Winnipeg which brings us to our next topic.

SERVICE – With Winnipeg being very limited in terms a demand for super cars, there aren’t very many super car dealerships straight from the manufacturer. This means dealerships like Lamborghini, Ferrari, Alfa Romeo and Koenigsegg won’t be laying bricks for a new dealership here any time soon. In order to service a Lamborghini in Winnipeg, Nott Autocorp is able to provide basic services like oil changes, brake fluids, tire alignment, etc. Your typical Lamborghini Gallardo oil change every 5,000 kms at Nott Autocorp would cost anywhere between $200-$300 per visit. Most of the cost for this is the filter and the actual oil (Lamborghini models are huge oil hogs and require a lot of oil). $150 of this cost alone is buying premium oil.

When it comes to engine issues or major repairs, you will need to send your Lamborghini to Calgary, Alberta. Estimated freight cost: $1,500 + the cost of actual repairs. A 2004 Lamborghini Gallardo we sent to Vancouver, BC recently cost us $2,800.00 for a complete service.

INSURANCE – Manitoba Public Insurance (MPI) is a public insurance company and has some of the most competitive rates in Canada. With Ontario car insurance being privatized, you’re looking to pay 30-50% more based on your driving record. With a price tag of $205,000 +  taxes, you can insure our 2010 Lamborghini Superleggera LP-570 with carbon-fibre upgrades for $225,000.00

Based on a neutral driving score, all-purpose use, a $100 deductible, third-party liability of $2M and current 2016 rates your annual premium is around $2,861 – which isn’t that bad at all. I mean, what more can you expect for insuring such an expensive car? That’s around $240.00 per month.

PRIVACY – We can all admit Lamborghini, regardless of model, are pretty eye-catching cars. One of the surprising aspects of Lamborghini you’ll have to learn to get used of is your privacy. When you’re driving this beautiful orange machine down the street, people are going to pull out their cell phone and take photos of you. Not only that, but you should expect to see your Lamborghini – license plate and all – plastered all over social media. #SuperCarSpotting

It really comes down to being a small Canadian city. I mean, how often do Winnipeg car enthusiasts get to see a European exotic roaming our elegant streets? Not very often.

Alongside this privacy, you’ll also meet people who will ask you a million questions: How much did it cost? Where do you maintenance it? What do you do for a living?

After a certain amount of questions, you’ll learn how to give them a short and satisfying answer. You’ll also notice you’ll meet three types of people along the way:

1. The Enthusiasts – loves your car, doesn’t care who you are and isn’t afraid to show their enthusiasm.
2. The Nonchalantists – loves your car, acts casual, may ask a couple of questions and maybe offer a compliment.
3. The not-so-impressed – probably likes your car, doesn’t talk to you and will never say a thing to you despite their stare.

Whichever you meet, it’s entirely up to you to invite them in and be the cool Lamborghini guy or gal. Then again, you can totally brush them off and receive a few looks. But that’s up to you.

Preferably, the staff at the Nott Autocorp Team enjoys seeing super car owners as equally engaging to super car fans. With a small city like ours, a good word gets around pretty quick!
